Hey, I’m Katie and welcome to Slowly But Surely!
Growing up, my number one goal in life was to get a job and work in New York City. In March of 2011, that dream came true and it’s been quite a ride.
I lived in New York for just over a year before I followed this boy across the country to Wisconsin to start our life together!
Unfortunately, it didn’t work out and I moved back home to Minnesota in January 2013. It hasn’t been easy navigating the single life but I’m making the most of it!
Goal #1: Live a healthier lifestyle & become a runner.
I grew up with asthma and could hardly run a mile. However, I
am training to run ran the NYC Half Marathon on March 18, 2012. I still dabble with running and love finding a variety of ways to stay active. I’m still learning the in’s and out’s of being in shape and this blog will document it all.
One benefit of moving back to Minnesota is helping my parents be more active and eat healthier. It’s easy to get lazy and comfortable but teaching them about easy ways to cook healthy food, deliciously is such an awesome investment of time and energy!
Goal # 2: Get out of debt.
I put myself through school using student loans and after graduation I racked up a decent amount of credit card debt living on a low-income salary (thanks economy!). Living in New York City and saving for a wedding didn’t make my financial situation any easier. Fortunately, I babysit on the side to increase debt payments and savings. I am learning to curb my love of shopping, travel, and food, and to live a frugal lifestyle so I can one day be debt free. Part of moving back to Minnesota is to save extra money and really knock that debt out! My biggest cheerleaders are:
My family (Dad, Sister, Mom, Me)
Matt, technically my ex but still my best friend.
My aunt, uncle, and cousins are my home away from home in New York.
And my friends that live all over the country also play big roles in my story:
NYC ladies (Megan M, Danielle, Megan and Me)
Minnesota girls: Me, Megan, Tanya, and Lenka
Me and Amanda, also a Minnesota bff
I spent a year after high school as a live-in nanny in New Jersey. I met Jessie (on the left) along the way and she is still an important lifeline.
After college, I got a job in Charlotte, NC and I moved to a brand new town not knowing a soul. I met these lovely ladies above (Faith, Amber, & Lindsey) and I’m still learning life lessons from them.
Although my support system is not always an arm’s length away, they help me chase my dreams, accomplish my goals, dry my tears and always make me laugh.
“Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn’t fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it’s comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you’re very lucky, a plane ride away.” — Sex & The City
